Putting together a graphic novel from start to finish!
Marshmallow et Jordan French edition celebration!
In my March post about Marshmallow and Jordan, I shared my insane story of hand-painting over 380 pages.
To speed up the book production process, I used a traditional animation compositing method, which makes it easier to put the book together after finishing all the paintings. First, I make sure all the "moveable" and "repetitive" elements are on separate layers so I can copy, paste, and reuse the same art many times.
The top image is the final artwork from the book. The bottom images are examples of how I separated each element onto different layers in Photoshop.
Details such as the picture frames and trophies in the background would take forever if I had to repaint them over and over again for each panel, so I would try to reuse and repurpose backgrounds and decorative elements as much as possible because painting backgrounds with lots of details takes a long time.
Here is a video demonstrating how I put together the entire book.
